A kestrel for a knave

I have read this book a few times and also seen the movie , it's about growing up in the North of England in the late 60's early 70's.
Billy Casper is a boy with nowhere to go and nothing to say, part of the limbo generation of school leavers too old for lessons and too young to know anything about the outside world. He hates and his hated. His family and friends are mean and tough, his only companion is his kestrel hawk trained from the nest, and like himself trained but not tamed, with the will to destroy or be destroyed.

  1. Cool! I remember this from almost 30 yrs ago, reading it at High School. Ripper book. Not much has stuck with me since back then, but "Gior Jud" and "summut" ring clear as street lingo from the time and place.
